Using Report Actions in Business Intelligence Reports

In a previous technical tip we demonstrated how 2 or more reports on the same worksheet could be linked by common selection criteria. Report actions provide a similar way of linking by selecting a row on one report which automatically changes the related selection criteria on the second report so providing a quick way of viewing related information on the same worksheet.

The example below shows how selecting the row for France in Sales by Country and running the action automatically changes the selection criteria in the Transaction by Country report.
 
To run this action – select France in Sales by Country – right click on this cell and then select the ‘Actions’ option and ‘Run’ – this will change the Country Name selection in Transaction by Customer to France :

To set up an Action first position the cursor in the Country row area and then click the Actions button in the BI Toolbar ribbon :
